For example a court order or the draft letter of instruction. Please do not attach medical records.

Instructions are accepted from solicitors only. Read our privacy policy before sending personal information.

    Before you send

A proposed instruction can be assessed more quickly when the legal context, the psychiatric issues and the deadline are set out at the start. It helps to include:

    • whether the claim concerns abuse or clinical negligence, and the stage of proceedings
    • the psychiatric issues that need an expert opinion
    • whether you need a new report, a supplementary report, a conference or court attendance
    • any deadline, hearing date or timetable
    • the records available and their approximate volume

    How instructions work

    First step
A free medico-legal screening call to confirm suitability, scope and timescale
    Fees
A fixed-fee quotation, with no hidden charges
    Instruction
Formal written instructions are needed before report work begins
    Report
Usually 1–2 weeks from assessment; urgent reports often in 2–5 working days if the papers and appointment can be arranged promptly

    What happens next

Give the funding route and any deadline in the enquiry, so that the quotation and the timetable can be agreed at the first call.

    1. The screening call

Dr Pradhan confirms whether the case falls within her expertise, the scope of opinion needed and whether your timetable can be met.

    2. Quotation and instruction

A fixed-fee quotation, then formal written instructions with the records, the questions and any deadlines.

    3. Assessment and report

The assessment is arranged to suit the case and the claimant’s needs, and the report follows, typically 1–2 weeks later.

How quickly can a medico-legal psychiatric report be delivered?

The usual turnaround is 1–2 weeks from assessment. For urgent cases, reports can often be provided within 2–5 working days where the papers and appointment can be arranged promptly. If you have a court deadline, include it in your initial enquiry so that the timetable can be discussed.

Which cases does Dr Pradhan accept?

Abuse claims and clinical negligence, for claimants aged 18 and over. Where the claimant is still a child, the assessment can be arranged through the child psychiatrists in her network; call to discuss the case.

Can Dr Pradhan be instructed as a single joint expert?

Yes. She is regularly appointed as a single joint expert, as well as instructed separately by claimant and defendant solicitors. In civil claims in England and Wales, each party may give the single joint expert instructions, but must copy them to the other parties, and unless the court directs otherwise the parties are jointly and severally liable for the expert’s fees and expenses (CPR 35.7 and 35.8). Say in the enquiry that the instruction is joint, and mention any court directions.

What funding and payment options are accepted?

Dr Pradhan works on fixed fees with no hidden charges. Legal aid (LAA), CFA or insurance-backed, private, and council, court or CPS-funded instructions are accepted, with flexible or deferred payment terms where appropriate. Include the funding route in the enquiry.

Where does Dr Pradhan accept instructions from?

She accepts instructions from solicitors across England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland, and worldwide. Assessments take place at her consulting rooms at Abacus Court, Harborne, Birmingham, or can be arranged to suit the case and the claimant’s needs.

Can I send the medical records with the enquiry?

Please do not. Send a short summary first; you can attach a court order or the draft letter of instruction. Once the instruction is agreed, Dr Pradhan will confirm how to send the records.
