After the first report
A psychiatric report is rarely the last word in a contested claim. New records arrive, the claimant’s condition changes, the other side puts written questions, and the experts are directed to discuss the issues. Dr Pradhan assists with supplementary questions, joint statements and court attendance where required.
She also provides second-opinion reports where a solicitor needs an independent view on another expert’s psychiatric opinion, or where an earlier report no longer reflects the claimant’s condition.
Dr Pradhan is dual-accredited for claimant and defendant work and is regularly appointed as a single joint expert, and judges have commended her reports for clarity.

Submit an enquiryThe four most common tasks
Each piece of work after the first report is held to the same duty to the court as the report itself.
Written questions
Questions put under CPR 35.6, usually within 28 days of service and for clarification, answered clearly and treated as part of the report.
Addendum reports
A focused report on new records, witness evidence or a change in the claimant’s condition, saying whether the opinion changes and why.
Joint statements
A discussion with the other side’s psychiatric expert, recorded in a statement of the issues agreed and not agreed, with the reasons.
Second opinions
An independent view on another expert’s report, where the instructions and the court’s directions allow.
The rules on expert questions and discussions
In England and Wales, a party may put written questions to an expert once, within 28 days of service of the report, for the purpose only of clarification, unless the court permits or the other party agrees otherwise. The court may direct the experts to discuss the issues and to prepare a statement of the matters on which they agree and disagree.
Where an opinion changes, for example because new records come to light, the expert must say so and explain why. Scotland and Northern Ireland have their own rules, and work there is prepared to them.
If an expert does not answer a written question from another party, the court may order that the party who instructed the expert cannot rely on that expert’s evidence, or cannot recover the expert’s fees from any other party, or both.
